AJR’s problem with hyperlocal

First a note on where I’ve been: Finishing up my biggest Django project to-date, and working on a presentation for the news division of the Special Libraries Association’s conference going on now in Denver. I’m giving a 20-minute talk about the future of identity systems and microformats. I’ll post the slides here when I’m done…

So, AJR wrote a downer of a piece on hyperlocal. What they didn’t talk about (and what’s hard to substantiate, because it hasn’t been done yet) is what happens when hyperlocal gets done right. If newspapers got their online act together hyperlocal wouldn’t be this niche interest, it would meld seamlessly into the overall plan.

Howard Owens writes much the same thing, only better.

  1. Thanks for the link …

I always say: It just needs to be part of what we do.
